Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is giving offers to 28,000 campus recruits this year, the highest in the past three years. In the previous two years, the company had been making offers to about 20,000 freshers.
The company made a net addition of 10,227 people in the quarter ended September 30, 2018, its highest in past three years.
The net addition in first half of the year stood at 16,104. The company’s headcount stood at 4,11,102 at the end of the quarter, a jump of 4.1% in just two quarters. The companies employee base comes from 147 different nationalities, and 35.7% of its workforce comprises of women employees.
TCS has witnessed 4.5 times jump in the number of colleges participating in the campus hiring.
The company saw more than two lakh students from over 1,800 colleges participating in its newly rolled out TCS National Qualifier Test, according to a top company executive.
“This quarter we reimagined entry-level college hiring with the TCS National Qualifier Test which opened up access to fast-track careers in TCS to talented youth even in remote parts of the country,” company’s CEO and MD Rajesh Gopinathan said.
Prior to the test, the company used to visit campuses and hire directly from campuses across somewhere in the range of about 400 campuses, according to Gopinathan.
“By conducting this exam at a national level, we have actually attracted students from over 1800 colleges across the country, more than 200,000 youngsters participated in this examination,” he said.
The country’s largest IT services provider reported a jump of 22.6% in its consolidated net profit at Rs 7,901 crore for the second quarter ended on September 30, 2018 compared with a net profit of Rs 6,446 crore in the year-ago period.
It has also reportedly signed deals worth $4.9 billion in the quarter. The IT behemoth grew its revenue’s faster in the past quarter than it has grown as compared to the last eight quarters.
