A committee has been set up for conducting a holistic study of origin and evolution of Indian culture since 12,000 years before present and its interface with other cultures of the world, Prahlad Patel said.
 
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Mr Patel said the 16-member committee will include KN Dikshit, Chairman, Indian Archaeological Society, New Delhi, and former Joint Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, among others.

Dravidian people or Dravidians are the present and past speakers of any of the Dravidian languages. There are around 245 million native speakers of Dravidian languages. Dravidian speakers form the majority of the population of South India and are natively found in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Dravidians are also present in Singapore or the United Arab Emirates through recent migration.

Former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday demanded to know why the Union government had not included women or an expert in Dravidian culture in the committee tasked to study Indian culture for the past 12,000 years.
 
Formet CM of Karnataka Mr. Kumaraswamy also asked more sharply :
 
“Is it possible to conduct a fair and unbiased study of Karnataka’s culture and heritage without having Kannadiga representatives in the committee?
