The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has invited applications from aspirants for this year’s Civil Service Examination, which will for the first time have a reservation for economically weaker sections.
 
The number of vacancies to be filled through this year’s exam is 896, which include 39 vacancies reserved for persons with disability.
 
The UPSC conducts the Civil Service Examination to select candidates for 26 services, including Indian Administration Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Foreign Service.
 
 
Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections for uppercase candidates and Persons with Benchmark Disability in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the government, the UPSC notification said.
 
“A candidate will be eligible to get the benefit of community reservation only in case the particular caste to which the candidates belong is included in the list of reserved communities issued by the Central Government. The candidates will be eligible to get the benefit of the Economically Weaker Section reservation only in case the candidate meets the criteria issued by the Central Government and in possession of such eligibility certification,” it said.
 
The UPSC said it would not entertain requests at a later stage if a candidate wants to change his category from general to reserved one or vice versa.
 
It will also not entertained requests for change from reserved category to another. “No reserved category candidates other than those recommended on General Merit shall be allowed to change his/her category from Reserved to Unreserved or claim the vacancies (Service/Cadre) for UR category after the declaration of final result by UPSC,” it said.
 
After scrutinising the applications, the UPSC said, “eligible candidates shall be issued an e-admit card three weeks before the commencement of the examination.
 
The e-admit card will be made available in the UPSC website for downloading by candidates. No Admit Card will be sent by post.”
 
The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages the first being the preliminary exam in objective type and the main exam which consists of written and interview. There will be negative marking for wrong answers in the objective type questions in the preliminary exam.
