A Bangladeshi national who worked as a  temple priest at the famous Mahalakshmi Temple at Dahanu, located off the Mumbai Ahmedabad NH 8, was convicted by the Dahanu court and sentenced to 2 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for staying in India without passport and any other documents .

The Additional Sessions Judge JR Mulani also fined the accused Babu Razak Mandal (54)a collective sum of Rs. 20,000.

The Additional Public Prosecutor Manisha Parmar appearing for the prosecution told the court in her submission that following the complaint by a local of the accused staying in the country without valid documents the Dahanu police had  booked the accused on September 25,2013  under Sections 420,466,468, 471,474 of the IPC and also Sections 12(1a) of the Indian Passport Act of 1967 and Section 14(A) of the Foreign Nationals Act of 1946.

PSI PY Sayeed and PSI RC Patil conducted the probe into the crime and arrested the accused, said Parmar.

The judge in his order noted that the prosecution has successfully proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubts. 

The passport of the accused was also cancelled by the courts said PSI Balkrishna Navkar of the Dahanu police station.
