Irked over social media posts linking her with a famous cinema actor, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s daughter Y.S. Sharmila on Monday lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad police.

Ms. Sharmila told the media that some people were using social media as a platform to tarnish her image by falsely linking her with Baahubali fame Prabhas.

The sister of YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that prior to the 2014 elections, a similar campaign linking was carried out by a few activists of the Telugu Desam Party to defame her. Following her complaint, police took steps and arrested a few suspects.

“Now that the elections are nearing in A.P., the campaign has resumed again. The police must bring the culprits to book,” she said.

Ms. Sharmila, along with her husband Anil Kumar and other party leaders met Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar and requested him to take stringent action against the rumour-mongers. She also lodged a complaint at the cybercrime police station.

“I strongly believe that the TDP is behind campaign as is its wont,” Ms. Sharmila said. When the leadership does not warn its cadre who are speaking of such things, it implies that it approves the of actions of the lower rung leaders, she alleged.

“Being a mother, wife and person with family bond, it hurts when such slanderous campaign is carried out,” she said.
