After the main accused in the murder case of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur murder Riyaz Attari and Mohammad Ghaus, the , were taken into custody.,
More details have emerged that the duo might have had links with the minority cell of Rajastan BJP in the past, much before they carried out the murder in Udaipur.
Riyaz Attari, one of the two killers, appeared to have made his way and links into BJP party events through its loyalists.
Images accessed by News agency India Today’s investigative reporters show a member of the BJP’s Minority Morcha in Rajasthan, Irshad Chainwala, welcoming him after his return from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia in 2019.
Chainwala’s own association with the local BJP unit dates back to more than a decade.
When News agency India Today probed him, he admitted Riyaz used to attend BJP events in Udaipur.
“He did. Somebody would accompany him. He attended many events of Gulab Ji (BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria),” Chainwala replied.
“He would come on his own. He said he wanted to work with the party,” Chainwala recounted.
Riyaz Attari got into BJP events through a man called Mohammad Tahir, whom Chainwala described as a party worker.
“Tahir Bhai is our worker,” Chainwala said. “Tahir Bhai was close to Riyaz.”
Both Tahir and Riyaz could be seen pictured in photos together.
But when investigative team reached Savina, Tahir was nowhere to be found..Neighbours said he had vacated his rented house there. Tahir’s mobile phone was also switched off.
The Congress on Saturday questioned the Union on handing over the investigation of the Udaipur killing to the National Investigation Agency.
Referring to some media reports claiming a connection between accused Riyaz Attari and a BJP leader, Congress leader Pawan Khera said, “We did our research on those claims and found old Facebook posts of Rajasthan BJP leaders where Riyaz Attari was mentioned as ‘BJP karyakarta’
“Questions were raised during Pulwama also. We all know about DSP Davinder Singh who was silently dismissed from the service. There was no inquiry against him,” Pawan Khera said.
