BJP’s Bhopal candidate and terrorist accused Pragya Singh Thakur on Friday lashed out at former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare who was martyred during the rejoice 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
She said the IPS officer died because of his ‘Karma’ referring to his investigation which led to the arrest of Pragya and other Hindutva outfit members.
While campaigning in Bhopal, she said, “inauspicious period started for Hemant Karkare when I was arrested.
Exactly 45 days later he was killed and that was the end of the inauspicious period.” She also alleged that Karkare abused and tortured her when she was in custody.
Karkare was killed during the Mumbai terror attack on November 26, 2008.
During an interview during November 26, 2009, a year after Karkare was killed his wife Kavita had recalled her last meeting with her husband.
“For the first time in a month and a half, Hemant and I were having dinner together on Nov 26th . Hemant got a call saying there was trouble at CST. He grabbed his shoes and got into the car,” she had said.
He was killed near Cama Hospital. She later questioned the the authorities over why no help had reached her husband and fellow officers as they stood outside Cama Hospital for over 40 minutes
As chief of the ATS, Karkare had exposed the link of Hindutva outfits in the Malegaon blast and other terrorist activities. The ATS investigation led to the arrest of Colonel Purohit, Swamy Aseemananda and others.
The terms Hindu terror and Saffron terror popped up in India following these arrests.
Karkare was killed in action during the 2008 Mumbai terrotist attacks that shocked whole nation .
After being shot three times in the chest he collapsed However it is not known who exactly killed him as there is no conclusive evidence.
His bravery was honoured with the Ashoka Chakra on 26 January 2009.
