Skies in several areas of Gurugram were covered with the crop-destroying desert locusts. The locusts were seen in condominiums such as Beverly Park, Garden Estate and Heritage City.
Around 10 days ago, farmers of 70 villages were imparted training with the help of Krishi Vigyan Kendra to deal with the locusts and safeguard their crops, according to District Magistrate southwest Delhi.
Swarms of locusts descended on the outskirts of Delhi as the skies in adjoining Gurugram turned dark on Saturday. A high alert has been issued in adjoining districts of the national capital.
Many people took to social media to share the videos that showed swarms of locusts flying in and settling on trees, plants and rooftops.
The city administration had asked the residents on Friday evening to take some precautions like keeping the windows shut after the locusts were sighted in an adjoining district.

The swarms are spread across an area of around two kilometres in the suburban city. They have touched the Delhi-Gurugram border but are yet to enter the capital.
Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai called an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and directed the administration to stay alert.
“Keeping in view the possibility of locust attack in Delhi, the Development Secretary, Divisional Commissioner, Director Agriculture and Horticulture were instructed to take necessary steps. High alert in South and West District,” he wrote on Twitter.
