Haryana Police chief BS Sandhu on Saturday said that the main accused who gangraped a 20-year-old woman from Rewari at Kanina in Mahendragarh district is a soldier posted in Rajasthan.
“A police team has been sent to arrest him. We are getting a warrant against him. The other two accused will also be arrested soon,” he said.
The police also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information about the three accused who gangraped the woman when she was on her way to a coaching centre on September 12. The FIR names three accused, Pankaj, Manish and Nishu.
In her complaint, the woman said that Pankaj and Manish drugged her and took her near a well in a car where she recognised Nishu after gaining consciousness. However, she was again drugged and allegedly gangraped.
Nuh superintendent of police (SP) Nazneen Bhasin, who leads the special investigation team (SIT), told reporters in Rewari, “Medical reports confirm gangrape but how many committed the crime is a matter of investigation.
Samples have been sent to the forensic lab.” Bhasin visited the victim in hospital and said her condition is stable.
The police provided security to the victim’s family on the directions of Haryana State Women Commission chairperson Pratibha Suman.
The National Commission for Women also wrote to DGP Sandhu, seeking updates on the case.
