After Telangana Congress working president A. Revanth Reddy was taken into preventive custody, the Election Commission of India has transferred Vikarabad Superintendent of Police T. Annapurna from the post with immediate effect.

She will be replaced by Avinash Mohanty who has been asked to take charge by 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 and the EC wanted a complaince report to be submitted by the same time.

Ms. Annapurna had been asked to report to her headquarters for further orders. The EC said in its orders that the services of Ms. Annapurna should not be utilised for election purpose.

The orders come after Mr. Reddy who was taken into preventive custody by the police during the early hours of Tuesday.

The police barged into the Congress working president’s around 3 a.m. on Tuesday and took him into custody. He was subsequently released in the afternoon after the Congress moved a lunch hour motion in the High Court.

The issue, however, drew flak as the opposition parties raised furore over the manner in which Mr. Reddy was treated by the police.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar forwarded a report on the episode to the EC following a representation submitted by the Congress leaders.
