Three people have reportedly died and several others injured in the arson that resulted after an inflammatory social media post in parts of East Bengaluru. Over 100 rioters have been arrested, said the police on Wednesday.
 
Police have imposed Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Bengaluru to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area, while curfew has been imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits
 
Naveen, who is the relative of Pulakeshinagar MLA (Congress) Akhanda Srinivasmurthy, had allegedly posted content against Prophet  Mohammed  that enraged a section of the minority community on Tuesday evening.
 
An angry mob attacked the MLA’s residence around 7pm before storming the D J Halli and KG Halli police stations on Tuesday night.

In the violence that broke out, the mob set fire to a dozen police vehicles and injured over 60 cops. Additional police forces were prevented from entering the area as the rioters continued to block the roads.
 
The situation deteriorated when the rioters attacked the DJ Halli police station around midnight following rumours that the cops were protecting the MLA’s relative.
 
“There were 4,000 rioters who resorted to vandalism and stone-pelting on the narrow streets,” a senior police officer said. In Social media various posts and via videos also reported that section of muslim  rioters protected Hindu temple . 

 

Meanwhile the Bengaluru cops have arrestesd as many as 110 people have been arrested in connection with the violence in the city.
 
Initial reports from agencies reveal that, Bengaluru Police has arrested Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy’s nephew for sharing a ‘derogatory’ post on social media, which triggered violence in the city last night.
 
“Accused Naveen arrested for sharing a derogatory post on social media,” said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant.

“110 people have also been arrested in connection with the violence that broke out in Bengaluru over an alleged inciting social media post,” Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bengaluru said.
 
The cops resorted to lathicharge, lobbed tear gas shells and finally opened fire to quell the mob.
 
“Two people died in police firing, one injured shifted to a hospital. Around 60 police personnel including an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) have been injured in the clashes,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.
