A 30 year old man was arrested in Delhi’s Shahdara after he allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl in his neighbourhood on the pretext of playing with her.

According to a report, the man allegedly tied and raped the girl at a labour colony in Shahdara’s Krishna Nagar on Monday night, the police said. He was arrested a day later after a police complaint by her parents.

Meghna Yadav, DCP, Shahdara, said that a case of rape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act was registered based on the statement of the girl.

The police said that the man  went to the girl’s house when she was alone, on the pretext of playing with her. He then tied the child’s limbs and raped her for nearly half an hour. He threatened to kill her brother if she reported the matter to anyone and left.

Police said that the girl was found tied up and crying by her elder sister. She later broke down before her parents and narrated the ordeal. They also found blood stains on her clothes.

They took her to a hospital where doctors confirmed rape. The parents then reported the matter to the police.

When a team from Krishna Nagar police station reached the accused’s house, he was found absconding. He was, however, tracked down the next and arrested. He was produced before a local court which sent him to judicial custody till further investigation.

The accused, a native of Bihar, lived in a room adjacent to the child’s family. The police said they are probing whether he targeted other children in the area as well.
