Questioning of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar by CBI related to Saradha chit fund scam began in Shillong, Meghalaya capital on Saturday morning.

Kumar and three other senior police officers reached Shillong on Friday, days after the Supreme Court asked him to appear before the CBI in Shillong.

Sources said a 10-member CBI team, which also reached Shillong on Friday, began quizzing Kumar at the agency’s office at hill station Shillong around 11.30am, which is still on.

The CBI had alleged in its affidavit to the Supreme Court that Kumar “destroyed and tampered” with call data records of a key accused and held back evidence in the Saradha chit fund scam.

The issue hogged headlines after Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee sat on a dharna soon after a CBI team reached Kumar’s residence in Kolkata on Sunday evening to question him in connection with the charges.
