East India Politics Votes & Polls

Vote for any candidate but only lotus is blooming in Assam Tezpur booth

In BJP ruled state Assam today when first phase of 2019 general election begin an electronic voting machine (EVM) raised many eyebrows in Assam’s Tezpur

As per reports, every time a button was pressed by the voters, the vote went in favour of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Tezpur in Assam is considered to be one of the most important Lok Sabha seats with a maximum number of rural voters.

The Gorkha population plays a pivotal role in this constituency followed by tea workers. The constituency covers Dhekiajuli, Barchalla, Tezpur, Rangapara, Sootea, Biswanath, Behali, Gohpur and Bihpuria.

A total of 76,03,458 electorates, including 38,65,334 male, 37,37,970 female and 154 of the third gender will exercise their franchise in 9,574 polling stations.

The first phase voting is underway in five Lok Sabha seats in Assam Tezpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituencies.

The incident took place at the polling booth in Rangajan, Godamghat Miri Gaon School of the Tezpur district.

After the voters took up the issue with the polling officials, the voting was suspended. The officials assured to replace the EVM at the earliest.

An EVM consists of two units, a control unit, and the balloting unit, on top of which each candidate and his or her election symbol appears.

The two units are joined by a five-meter cable. Balloting unit facilitates voting by a voter via labelled buttons while the control unit controls the ballot units, stores voting counts and displays the results on 7 segment LED displays. The voter selects his candidate by pressing the blue button.

It should be noted EC officials who recently confirmed they could only count 5 VVPATs per parliament Constituency .
Technically that is well below 2% of VVPATs . It is should be noted 21 parties in India asked for 50% VVPAT Counting .
But Even after 21 Opposition parties accepted EC stand of 6 days counting time 50% VVPAT , then EC could only increase from their earlier stand of VVPAT Counting of 0.4% to 2%
