Anandpal Singh was probably the only criminal in Rajasthan for whom his aides never hesitated to sacrifice themselves.
In a gang-war in Bikaner Central Jail in July, 2014, his close aide, Balveer Banuda, jumped in front of bullets when Anandpal’s enemies tried to shoot him. Anandpal had serious charges against him, including murder, robbery and extortion.
Despite having these charges on his head, he had developed Robin Hood image among people. His Facebook image uploads and his video uploads on YouTube gives evidence of his fearless life.
Black goggles, black hat, moustache, beard, leather jacket and his huge and solid physical appearance resembled a Bollywood style gangster.
In May 2017, Anandpal attempted to surrender. His advocates met Governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh, in Jaipur who told them that he is a patriot and that if he will be given security he wanted to surrender.
A fair investigation was demanded on his behalf to the Chief Justice of High Court. In the court, it was said that the injustice of leaders had led him to this situation and now all these leaders wanted him dead. Anandpal's lawyer A.P. Singh also wrote to the Chief Justice, stating that the court should conduct a fair investigation under the direction of a judge because Anandpal had not committed any crime.
He added that Anandpal ran away because his companion Balveer Banuda was killed inside the jail by his enemy Raju Theth. If he had not escaped then he too would have been killed as he was not safe inside the jail. His lawyer alleged that if any lawyer in Rajasthan wants to represent Anandpal, the police overwhelm him in false cases.
But on 4 June 2017 when was at the age 42 in Malasar in Churu district, Rajasthan, encounters resulted in unrest in India as family, public and lawyers said that he wanted to surrender, but the police either killed him after his surrender or forced an encounter instead of letting him surrender, resulting in a large protest demanding CBI investigation.
The protest which had begun after the encounter of gangster Anand Pal Singh in Rajasthan has turned ugly resulted in death of One person and 21 Injured as violence erupts in large scale. However, neither police nor Rajasthan Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria confirmed how he died, whether from police bullet or not.
After a years the ghost of Anand Pal Singh is all set to rise again on his first death anniversary, much to the discomfiture of ruling BJP.
On June 24, Ravna Rajput community has planned large scale blood donation camps not just in Rajasthan but also in Gujarat and Maharashtra where they are in sizeable numbers. The events are aimed at giving the community an opportunity to flex its muscles to gain political mileage.
The camps would be held in Bhilwara, Pali, Jalore, Jaisalmer among others. In Nagaur, home district of Anand Pal Singh, 2 camps would be held at Didwana and Makrana and the target is to collect 11,000 units of blood and make a record. However, there would no such event in Churu where the dreaded gangster was killed in an encounter by state police. Incidentally, the CBI is presently camping in Churu to investigate the encounter.
“Our community is upset with the present leadership of BJP and Rajput MLAs. BJP faced consequences of our ire in bypolls and we will do so again in assembly polls.
Only one out of our 11-point charter of demands has been accepted by including Major Dalpat Singh in the school syllabus. All others have been forgotten. Even cases have not been withdrawn against our youth,” said Ranjit Singh, state president of Akhil Ravna Rajput Seva Sansthan.
“After these camps, we will organise a large caste panchayat in the end of September and spell out our political demands,” added Singh.
The Rajput and Ravna Rajput community continue to be upset with BJP government over the encounter and have termed it as fake. While the BJP has been unable to contain their anger, the events on death anniversary of the slain gangster have all potential to rake up wounds and inflict further political damage to BJP.
