Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of practising poisonous politics of hatred.
The comments came in the backdrop of an atrocity in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, in which two minor Dalit boys were allegedly beaten up and paraded naked in a village for swimming in a well that belonged to a person of a different caste.
In a shocking incident, three teenaged Dalit boys were paraded naked and beaten up for swimming and bathing in a well at a farm owned by another family at Wakadi village in the Jamner taluka of Jalgaon district of north Maharashtra.
The crime of these Dalit children in Maharashtra was just that they were bathing in a golden well.
Today, humanity is struggling to save its identity. If we don't raise our voice against the poisonous politics of hatred practised by RSS and BJP, history would never forgive tweeted Rahul Gandhi.
RSS vicharak Rakesh Sinha countered Rahul's attack saying the Congress president is a reactionary politician. He added that Rahul did not get his facts correct.
The Jalgaon incident, which occurred on June 10, came to light after an alleged video of the boys being paraded naked at Vakadi village surfaced.
The Opposition, several Dalit leaders and a few BJP leaders have condemned the incident. Union minister of state for social justice and employment and Republican Party of India leader Ramdas Athawale said that he would visit the village, where the incident occurred, to ensure that the victims get justice.
The Opposition has decided to take up the issue during Parliament's monsoon season.
