Pakistan Government, in a show of magnanimity, has released 78 Indian fishermen from Landhi jail in Karachi. These fishermen were held for trespassing into Pakistan’s territorial waters.

Pakistan also released 62 Indian fishermen earlier this year, but there are, still, 298 of them waiting to get back to India. As per Foreign office reports, Indian jails have around 135 Pakistani fishermen who were detained for straying into India.

Naseem Siddiqui, an official of the provincial home department of Sindh said, Pakistan will release remaining 298 fishermen once their nationality is verified by India. He added " We hope India will also reciprocate in a similar manner and make an effort to release the 135 Pakistani fishermen who are currently waiting for their turn in the bi-nation angling sport of ‘catch and release"
