The Congress won 10 out of 13 seats in the Diu Nagarpalika. The election of the 13-seat Diu Municipal Council took place on July 1 and counting of votes took place on Monday, July 3. Soon after the results were declared, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Bharat Solanki tweeted, “Diu has rejected BJP as Cong wins 10 out of 13 seats in N’palika. This is only the beginning, same will be repeated in Guj!”

The voter turnout for the Diu MC election on Saturday was recorded at 72.70 per cent. Both the Congress and the BJP were in high spirits after the high voter turnout.

The Diu Municipal Council election comes months ahead of the Gujarat Assembly Election 2017. The victory for the Congress has resulted in a moral boost for the party.
