In yet another case of cow vigilantism, a 28-year-old man was lynched by a mob in Alwar’s Ramgarh late on Friday night on suspicion of cow smuggling.
The man, identified as Akbar Khan, a resident of Kolgaon in Haryana, was spotted with a couple of cows in Alwar's Lalawandi area in Ramgarh police station area when he was attacked.
Akbar Khan's killing comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged all the state governments to take strict action against those involved in mob lynching incidents and punish them to curb the menace happening in the country for the last few months.
Incidentally four days ago the Supreme Court had asked the legislature to consider enacting a new penal provision to deal with mob violence and provide deterrent punishment to offenders.
No citizen can take the law into their hands and the government must act, said the Supreme Court on Tuesday. "In case of fear and anarchy, the state has to act positively," said Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
According to reports, the man was transporting two cows, which have been taken to a cow shelter now. The victim's body has been kept in the morgue of a local hospital and the investigation is underway.
According to the police Villagers in Ramgarh, caught the two men who were transporting cows on foot and started thrashing them. "The incident took place in the intervening night of Friday. Villagers attacked the two men who were transporting cattle. They thrashed them and one among them died on the spot", Subhash Sharma circle officer at Ramgarh police station said.
However, the police is yet to confirm if the two men were cow smugglers. As of now, police has not arrested anyone.
In last one year Alwar district has been in news been in news for the cow vigilante attack and cow smuggling incidents.
A 55-year-old dairy farmer Pehlu Khan was beaten to death by an angry mob of cow vigilantes in Alwar's Nuh area on April 1, 2017.
Two days later he succumbed to his injuries in a private clinic. Later on November 10, the body of a 35-year-old man Umar Mohammed, was found on railway tracks in Alwar’s Ramgarh.
Also in December, an alleged cow smuggler was killed in an exchange of fire with the police. Recently in Feb 2018 cow smuggler was killed in mysterious conditions while being chased by police in Alwar district of Rajasthan.
