Putting an end to its 20-year-long wait, France on Sunday won its second FIFA World Cup title after defeating Croatia 4-2 in a high-octane final at the Luzhniki Stadium here.
In a tournament filled with dramatic ups and downs, France stood tall in the end, keeping cool at all times despite not being in its sublime form in the group stage.
Celebrities around the world congratulated the French national team on their phenomenal success.
Earlier Amitabh Bachchan and Mukesh Ambani watched FIFA World Cup semi-final match in Russia.
Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan also took to Twitter to congratulate the French squad making a reference to their diversity.
He wrote, ''T 2868 - Thats it then ... AFRICA won the World Cup 2018 !!!"
Bachchan's tweet alluded to fact that there are a number of African origin players in the team.
Out of 23 players taken to Russia by coach Didier Deschamps, 16 have an immigrant background. Their families have emigrated from African nations like Morocco, Angola among others.
However, Bachchan's tweet didn't sit down well with some Twitter users. Many people on social media criticised Bachchan for over-simplifing the whole issue.
One Twitter user wrote, "Wrong sir. :) France and it’s diverse team did."
Another wrote, "Didn’t expect this Tweet from Big B. If a nation could integrate their immigrants to the mainstream of society so successfully, it’s a huge credit to them."
