Uttara Kannada District police has on Thursday suo motu registered a case against Udupi Chikmagalur Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje for provocation with intent to cause riot, promoting enmity between different groups and publishing statement creating or promoting enimity, hatred.

The BJP leader has been booked under Section :

Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot if rioting be committed if not committed),

Section 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and

Section 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the the Honnavar Police.

On 14th December 2017, Shobha had tweeted that `Jihadis tried to rape and murder a girl studying in 9th std near honnavar. Why is the govt silent about this incident ? Arrest those who molested and injured this girl. Where are you CM @Siddaramaiah?’.

She had tweeted this after some right wing social media groups started campaign that a girl has been attacked with knives by two unidentified persons near Honnavar.

But investigations revealed that no one had attacked the girl. District SP Vinayak Patil clarified that out of fear of exams girl had inflicted herself with injuries.
