Cricketer turned Politician Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) says they will invite former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Navjot Sidhu, and actor Aamir Khan to a prospective swearing-in ceremony, a party official confirmed to India Today.
During a live television interview, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudry said invitations would be sent by today or tomorrow to personal friends of Khan's - such as the four men mentioned above.
He said Pakistan's Foreign Office will decide if it's possible for the dignitaries to come in such a short amount of time, and whether arrangements can be made.
Khan, 65, is expected to be Pakistan's new prime minister. The PTI has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the July 25 election; it is likely to form a government with support from allies and independents.
Khan has said he will take oath as prime minister on August 11.
Dawn, a Pakistani daily, quoted Fawad Chaudry as saying his party was waiting for Pakistan's foreign office to say whether or not Prime Minister Narendra Modi (and other "foreign dignitaries") can be invited - considering that time is short.
Chaudry has told India Today that the PTI is contemplating inviting Saarc (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) leaders. The grouping includes India.
