India brought in more stringent laws against sexual offenders after the fatal gang-rape of a student in Delhi in December 2012, but they have failed to stem the tide of violence against women across the country.
The A 35-year-old woman, a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan who had come to Sohna for work, said she had been walking near her residence in Sohna when she was pulled into a car by the men. The woman had come Gurgaon 10 to 15 days earlier and was staying with her family in Sohna area.
“The victim has claimed that she was picked up at around 8.30pm on Monday in Gurgaon. She was allegedly raped in the car while the accused were driving around,” said Suniti, superintendent of police (Noida Rural).
The woman was thrown out of the car in Greater Noida around 4am, the official said. “Some beer bottles were also found from the spot which indicates that the accused persons were inebriated at the time,” a senior Greater Noida police officer told PTI.
Police said the woman was spotted crying in front of Yatharth Hospital in the jurisdiction of Kasna police station. She was later taken to a hospital for medical examination.
Greater Noida police also said they were coordinating with Gurgaon officials for the investigation. A team of Greater Noida police brought the victim to Sector 29 police station in Gurgaon. Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar has also reached the Sector 29 police station to oversee the investigations.
On May 29, a woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped in Gurgaon’s Manesar area and her nine-month-old baby killed to smother her cries. She, too, was left on the roadside after about four hours.
These continual incidents in bjp government highlight that police patrolling continues to be poor, particularly at night in places such as Gurgaon and Gautambudh Nagar.
